Matthew Mott joins Delhi Capitals as assistant coach for IPL 2025

Delhi Capitals have appointed Matthew Mott, the former coach of the England and Australian women's teams, as their assistant coach for IPL 2025.
Mott will assist head coach Hemang Badani, who joined the team in October 2024.
This is not Mott’s first stint in the IPL; he previously worked as an assistant coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2008-2009 season.
Under his tenure as head coach, the England men's team won the 2022 T20 World Cup.
However, after the team’s poor performance in white-ball cricket, he resigned from his position as England’s white-ball head coach in July 2023.
After his resignation, Sydney Sixers appointed him as their assistant coach on a three-year contract.
Now, as he joins Delhi Capitals, Mott’s first major task will be to collaborate with head coach Hemang Badani, director of cricket Venugopal Rao, and the team owners to finalize the captain for IPL 2025.
Currently, only two teams Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders are yet to announce their captains for the upcoming season.
According to some reports, Indian all-rounder Axar Patel is a strong contender to lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025.
However, Indian opener KL Rahul’s name has also emerged in the captaincy race, as Delhi Capitals acquired him during the IPL 2025 auction.
